I was online last night as the news came across the internet and then on TV. My first impulse was that I hadn't heard the news correctly, but was gleeful once more information began to solidify the fact that Osama Bin Laden was dead. I watched emotionally as Americans joined in the streets to celebrate this elusive victory. A victory that has been long overdue in response to the horrendous attacks of 9/11.
Many of the initial postings were congratulatory of our fighting men and women, along with the Administration. Many also touched on the justice for all of those lost at the hand of this extremist Bin Laden.
Unfortunately this morning, less than 12 hours after the news was first made public, many posts have turned to a level not fitting the gravity of this moment in our history. I have seen posts "seeding" the beginnings of a new conspiracy theory. There has been a scramble to attribute the success to one party or the other. There have even been racist postings about our President.
The whole purpose of the lost military lives over the last 9 years has been to achieve this end. We should ALL be proud of the diligent work of these Americans who carried out this mission. We should not be denigrating their sacrifice with this petty and inane banter. Save it for another day and another argument.
Give these American Hero's the credit they deserve.
